Why Should You Care?

Everyone has a newsletter now — kind of like a podcast! (I have one of those, too!) What makes mine so great? If you love diving deeper into the beauty world: how and why we consume, what trends will take off (some based on data, others based on good ol’ intuition) and simultaneously enjoying the hell out of what the industry has to offer, while holding a magnifying glass to the things that seem sus, I have a feeling you’ll enjoy this. I like starting conversations and this is what this newsletter is indended to do.

I’ve been covering beauty as an on-camera reporter and producer for over a decade now, which is wild to think about. Naturally curious, I love my job because it allows me to keep learning; it’s a bizarre realization that I’m now at a point in my career where I am the one educating and informing people. My career began in digital media in 2011, where I learned how talking to someone on-camera differs from how you would speak to them through written word, and also how the population consumes social content. This informs a lot of what I cover — the popularity of a product or person can be tied directly to how good (or bad) they perform in the socialsphere.

Most of my career was tenured at POPSUGAR, growing their beauty video vertical as the face of the brand. Upon leaving in 2019, I launched Gloss Angeles, a beauty podcast that’s both critical and celebratory of the industry, and I began creating content for my own social platforms. I freelance for outlets like Allure, Cosmo, Air Mail Look, and Byrdie, covering the intersection of beauty and entertainment for my Allure column The Scenario and lending trend analysis and industry insights for larger-scale stories for other publications.

I’ve been told my insights have helped brands develop products, change direction in marketing and have informed many-an-editor on what they should cover before everyone else, which I take pride in.

There will be various newsletters sent from this Substack: a few different columns that hone in on the “beauty” of it all, from reporting to reviews. But I’m also passionate about film and televison and I love to share my $0.02 on those mediums as well. (People seem to enjoy it in my Instagram stories.) In general, I’m opinionated, and I have fun ideas I hope to bring to life with this newsletter as such. As a human being, I have many interests — novel concept — and plan on exploring them all, delivered straight to your inbox.

Welcome! I’m glad you’re here. We’re going to have fun, learn something, and perhaps make a difference at some point.
